Andres is the surf genius behind the surf school. He is truly a gifted athlete and a spectacular teacher. His compassion for the children of Costa Rica is unparalleled — he spends hours working with kids to help bring out their talents and abilities. Some of the work is helping kids overcome their fear of the ocean, or teaching them the value of eating well. Combine all of this with a love of being active and engaged and you have the basis for a healthy, confident and successful life. Las Tortuguitas is about surfing, but it's more about life. Our mission and goal is to improve the lives of Costa Rican children, and there is no better role model, when it comes to living your best life, than our friend Andres.

After meeting Andres and learning some of the hard cold facts about poverty and class imbalance in Costa Rica, Willie was adamant about providing some sort of support to make a change. Together with Andres, they hatched the plan to give young Costa Ricans the opportunity to learn to swim and surf, and even to develop the skills needed to eventually become surf instructors in their home towns. Mr. Ford has provided the sole financial support for this project in its inception, he has brokered financial help from nonprofit organizations in the US, and is currently overseeing new ways to promote Las Tortuguitas and to establish new sustainable sources of funding to ultimately make Las Tortuguitas a larger and more permanent program.
